Why Is The Decompression Zone in a Retail Space Important?

Updated: Sep 15, 2022

Having the decompression zone in retail allows customers to adjust to a new environment. Customers use these spaces differently based on the type of store, season, how many people they are shopping with, etc..

For example, in the summer people use this space to relax and have a break from the heat but during the winter they use this space to take off any extra layers. This space holds the umbrellas and helps contain the changes that take place before customers start to move throughout the space.

Customers can get familiar with the space and analyze what parts of the store they are most drawn towards. It is crucial these spaces are inviting and open, allowing people to move freely.
